In 2018, the Triad Trackers reached the pinnacle of their team’s 30-year history, earning a spot in the Wheelchair Basketball National Finals. Two years later, the team was suddenly gone, ripped away from the hands of its players as a casualty of Covid-19. When Chris Rivera moved to Winston-Salem, he decided the final Trackers’ basket had yet to be scored. Alongside two of his former teammates, Tamirat and Bri, Chris assembled a squad that showcases the physicality that the sport demands, often heard through the sound of colliding chairs and screeching tires. Off the court, each player has their own unique story that led them to the game. For them, wheelchair basketball is not just a sport; It’s a family.
